Ah yes! February is here. The shortest month of the year (one day longer this year). Cold, dreary February. There are two good things about February-- Groundhog Day and Valentine’s Day. Groundhog Day (February 2nd) reminds us that no matter how cold the weather may be, spring is just around the corner. What a promise! Freshly plowed gardens planted with spring and summer vegetables and lovely flowers blooming their little hearts out! And then, of course, February 14th Valentine’s Day arrives, the season of flowers, cards and chocolates. Valentine’s Day is a day when we can remind our sweet hearts just how much we love them.
So February is a reminder of love and new life. Not so bad after all, especially when we remember that February and Our Savior have a lot in common. Jesus speaks frequently in the Gospels about the promise of new life that He offers. In fact, He calls it abundant life! Just as the promise of Spring brings renewed hope to our hearts that have been chilled by the short days of winter, Jesus’ resurrection is a vivid reminder that because He lives we too shall live. And then talk about love, Jesus invented the word! In fact, we’re told that God IS love! Our only true understanding of the concept of love comes through Jesus Christ.
Think of these wonderful truths as you “shiver” your way through this month.
See you Sunday!
